2. "When Uncle Joe died I was in my teens and old enough to drive in the early days of Model T's. Uncle Joe had been living with his daughter in West End. I carried my mother to the funeral. The service was held in a small frame cottage, not too well constructed. There was a large crowd present. Along with the weight of the mourners and the casket the floor dropped to the ground. Men sitting and standing near the casket held it upright until it could be carried to safety. No one was hurt but a few individuals panicked.
I remember Uncle Joe in his old age with a flowing white beard and twinkling blue eyes. The few times I ever saw him was when he was visiting his daughter or with nieces and nephews living on Cheshire Bridge Road. He often rode as far as these relatives homes after church at Rock Springs Presbyterian Church. We rode three miles to church in a surrey with the fringe on top. I am sure he visited in our home too, but I don't remember that".
