2. JEWELL LIPPS: A memorial service will be held November 6 for Jewell Josie Lipps of Eugene, who died Oct. 31 of cancer. She was 93. Lipps was born April 4, 1906, in Kirkland, Texas, to J.F. and Minnie Blackburn McMinn. She graduated from high school and attended beauty school in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1938, she married Leon Mix in New Mexico. He died in 1953. She married William Lipps in 1956 in San Diego. He died in 1971. A beautician, Lips owned her own shop. She lived in San Diego from 1947 to 1975, then moved to Port Towensend, Wash. In 1997, she voved to Eugene. Her interests included politics, the stock market and jewelry. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile and a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Nippert of Kirkland, Texas, and Maye Dixon of Springfield. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Major Family Funeral Home In Springfield. Saturday's service will be at 3 p.m. at Eugene Baptist Temple. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Sacred Heart.
