His gravesite is said to be on the grounds now occupied by the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa...

2. Apparently Augustus's wife preceeded him in death because he was left with minor children, namely, Mariah, Benjamin, and Pope who were put under guardianship of Benjamin B. Fontaine 6 Dec 1830...This day Blake B. Jones coroner and by virtue of his office administrator of the estate of Augustus Papizan dec'd filed his petition stating that the personal property of said deceased is insufficient to pay the debts of the estate...and that said deceased left no widow, but left the following children, Harriet, who is of age and unmarried, Dianna who is married to Chapman Hopson, Mariah a minor and under age, Benjamin W. , and Pope who are also under age...Benjamin B. Fontaine to be appointed guardian for Mariah, Benjamin W. and Pope Papizan..
