1. Elwood was born in Washington's Headquarters on the Brandywine Battlefield in Chadd's Ford, [2 miles from concordville, 6 miles from Wilmington and 10 miles from West Chester. Source: Chester Historical Society archives
2. Elwood lectured to pay his way through school.
3. Education: M. D. Degree in 1843 at University of Pennsylvania Medical Department.
4. In 1852 he became a professor at The Female Medical College of Philadelphia. Due to the lack of faculty Ellwood was the Professor of Principles and ran the Practice of Medicine.
4. His funeral was conducted by an Episcopalian Minister.
