Jane Pride's grandfather, William appears in the Henrico County records asearly as the 1690's when he received headrights for 1278 acres of land in payment for the transportation of persons including himself and his wife, Jane, to Virginia. Persons who paid for transportation of immigrants into one of the colonies were usually paid a "headright' of 50 acres per person by the
colonial government. Some researchers believe there was an even earlierWilliam Pride, father of William "Sr", in Henrico County as early as the1670's.
