Gen. George William TAYLOR "Sr"
1. George William Taylor was commissioned Colonel and Commander of the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry at the outbreak of the Civil War.
2. He took command of the First New Jersey Brigbade after General Phillip Kearny was promoted to divisional command in April 1862, and was promoted to Brigadier General during the Seven Days and Second Bull Run Campaign.
3. In an action that was a prelude to the Battle of 2nd Bull Run, his lone brigade encountered Stonewall Jackson's entire Corps neear Bull Run Bridge. The vastly superior force routed the First New Jersey Brigade, and General Taylor was mortally wounded. He died a few days after the battle at Alexandria, Virginia.
