1. James enlisted in the Spring of 1862 in the Confederate States Army, serving during the entire war, first under General Albert Sidney Johnston, and later as Second Lt. in the Army of the Mississippi, on the staff of General Braxton Bragg; returned to Calvert County, Maryland in 1872.
