1. Aunt Gracie had a very hard life and somehow managed to struggle by and raise her children, by having a garden every year, chickens [she sold eggs], milk cow, and a lot of help and understanding from her kids.

MIDWEST CITY----Services for former Ada resident Gracie Mae Mears, 90, Midwest City, are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, the Rev. Glen Eaves officiating. Burial follows in Maxwell Cemetery, near Ada.
Mrs. Mears died Nov. 10, 1999, at a Midwest City nursing home. She was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Boyd, Texas, to John and Etta Brittain Crow.
At the age of 8, she moved to this ara from Missouri. She attended grade school at Carthage, Mo., and Worstell.
In 1921 she married Arel Hayes. He died in the early 1960s. She later married Clifford Mears in the 1960s. He died April 18, 1994, in Midwest City. She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Lee Franklin, Corpus Christi, Texas, Betty Bobo, Fort Worth, Texas, Pat Henson Byers, Ada, Phyllis Hayes, Okmulgee, Gerry Hays Del City and Dottie Hayes, Chattanooga, Tenn; a sister, Lorene Benjamin, Ada; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Calvin Hayes and Ardel Hayes Jr; four granchildren, Steven Hayes, Christopher Hayes, Denise Jones and Gregory Jones.
Grandsons are bearers.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.
