1. Hal lived most of his life in Morristown, Tennessee, leaving only when he went to Eastern Virginia to work for a newspaper there. He returned to Tennessee in 1916 and was employed as a linotype operator of the Daily Gazette and Mail where he worked for 59 years until it closed in 1975.
2. Hal served on the Morristown School Board and was one of the organizers and charter members of the Tennessee Archaelogical Society. [Citizen Tribune, 23 Feb 1986, p. C-2]
