1. Calvin attended Capital Heights Grade School. Holdenville High School.
2. At age sixteen he and some other students at Holdenville High were carrying a 5-gallon can of carbonic acid. When they lost their grip and dropped the can, some of the acid splashed into Calvin's face. They saved one eye and took skin from his left shoulder and grafted it over his eye socket. He was later fitted for a glass eye -- but he couldn't wear it. So, he just wore a patch!
3. Calvin worked for Baldwin Well Service in 1962 in Holdenville. "It was his first time up on the pole, and the unit operator jerked and Calvin grabbed a hold of a dead rope. His arm went through the cable and the pulley -- it chopped his hand off and he fell about 50 feet". His right arm was broken, had a cracked skull, and just sat on the fender of the pulling unit for the ambulance. His hand was laying on the ground.
4. Calvin received $8,200 from workman's compensation and spent $l,000 for a down payment to buy the house at 616 West Main in Holdenville. He soon began to receive disability income.
5. Three years later Calvin & Ruth adopted a new baby, Jerry.
6. Being disabled didn't bother him -- he adjusted to the times.
7. In 1969 he started selling vacuum cleaners. Later, he began repair them, which he did until his death.
8. In January 2000 he had open-heart surgery -- again recovered quickly and was soon back at it.

9. It was April 2, 2000, in the early afternoon that Calvin was in the back yard mowing. He collapsed in the yard and was laying on the ground with the mower overturned. After Ruth called 911 and he was transported to the Holdenville Hospital and all attempts for revival were made, he was pronounced dead at 3:40 pm of a Myocardial Infarction.
