2. He was attached to Anti -Aircraft on a Pacific Island...
3. He was captured by the Japanese...and as a POW, was treated in a most cruel manner and in-humane by his captors in the Philippines. He survived the Baatan Death March. He related many stories about the bad treatment and the lack of food and medicine...how he and the others would eat anything that got into the confines of the prison camp that they could capture. Seems I remember that he related stories about the worst stuff to eat was a dog or monkey, not only did they taste bad, they were tough and stringy...snakes, bugs, or anything else were edible.
4. One of his duties was to work in the potatoe patch and if anyone was ever caught trying to smuggle one back into camp they would be severely punished with the butt of a rifle or bayonet, and of course his hungar and starvation caused him to get his share of the beatings!

He was released at the end of the war in 1945 and brought back to a hospital in San Francisco where he was visited by many of his kin...Wallace & Nettie Hayes, Delena, Argie, RJ and I'm sure others that I cannot verify. This writer heard some sad conversations from his mother Argie about how skinney and under nourished Albert was. Apparently he had been a fairly large [but not fat] young man but at that time his weight was down in the eighties. It was said that he was just "skin & bones".
