Sir John ALLEY

1. Sir John Alley, Mayor of Chipping-Wycombe. (1495 - 1501)


Bishop William ALLEY

1. With others, translated the book of Deuteronomy in the bible, and was author of "Poor Mans Library".

2. He was Bishop of Exeter.

3. He was educated in Eton, and was elected from that foundation to King's College, Cambridge, in 1528. He graduated as B.A. of that university in 1533, but subsequently removed to Oxford, where he spent some time in academical studies, and probab ly commenced M.A.

4. He married and had a benefice, but it does not appear where it was situated.

5. Early in the reign of Queen Elizabeth he became divinity reader at St. Paul's, London, and admirably performed the duties of that office.

6. 1 Apr 1570 made his last will and testament.


Sybil BODLEIGH

1. It is clear that William's wife was Sybil. Her maiden name is not so clear. In Alley Anc. it is shown as Bodleigh. Records at Exeter and from (i) show it as Homacott, daughter of a man by that name from Landket in Devon.


Austin ALLEY

1. An entry in the register of the parish of St. Mary Major Exeter states "1565 xxiii daye of september was christened Austin Alleye, the son of the Right Worshipfull my Lord William Alleye, Sisshoppe of Exeter by his wfie Sybil" (iv)


Sybil BODLEIGH

1. It is clear that William's wife was Sybil. Her maiden name is not so clear. In Alley Anc. it is shown as Bodleigh. Records at Exeter and from (i) show it as Homacott, daughter of a man by that name from Landket in Devon.


Robert ALLEY

1. The surname was Alye or Aly of Windsor Berkshire according to the Will dated 8 th Dec 1542.

2. There were obviously other children from the statement from his Will, "the residue to be divided between the rest of his children". The will to be overseen by John adn Andrew his sons.


Mary ALLEY

1. Mary was kidnapped by Indians in 1777, but managed to escape and get back to her family after a couple of months.


James M. ALLEY

1. James & Anna were Cousins.
