Roy Wayne Nicholson
Hendersonville - Roy Wayne Nicholson, 82, of Hendersonville, died Saturday March 6, 2004, at Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a sone of the late Wit Jud Nicholson and Carrie Surrett Nicholson. He was the husband of Mildred Holden Nicholson, who died in 1990, and was also preceded in death by four brothers, Surrett, Ralph, Hubert and Harry Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson, was a 1939 graduate of Etowah High School and attended Blue Ridge Technical College.
He retired after 40 years of service with the Olin Corp. of Pisgah Forst and was also a former employee of King Hardware, where he worked for 10 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and served with the U. S. Navy as an aviation radioman during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth H. Nicholson; daughter, Sereta Nicholson Brackett and her husband, Robert P. Brackett, of Hendersonville; two stepdaughters, Donice LaPota and her husband, Jim, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Teresa Jenkins and her husband, doug, of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Bob Brackett of Atlanta, Patrick Brackett of Raleight, Brian and Jason LaPota of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sustin and Kaylee Jenkins of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the mausoleum, chapel of Shepherd Memorial Park with the Rev. Tommy Own officiating.
Bural will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Thos. Shepherd Son Funeral Directors.
