1. According to the 1860 Census, Charles Allison W. Hartgraves was living with the N. W. Ellis family. It is believed that the Ellis family was related to Sarah, Charles Allison W. Hartgraves' mother.
2. Charles & Mary's happiness was short-lived. States were being forced to join sides in the Civil War. Texas joined the Confederacy in 1861 and Charles along with his three brothers enlisted the same year.
3. Charles was discharged from a hospital in Covington, Georgia, 29 Feb 1864.
4. He returned to Van Zandt County to be with his wife and daughter.
5. He never recoved from his injury and died soon after he returned.
1. Benjamin enlisted into the Confederacy in 1861.
2. He was killed during service in 1864.
1. Asa enliseted into the Confederate Army in 1861.
2. Asa and his wife lived and farmed in Houston County until he died in 1880.
