John D. BUTLER

1. Obituary submitted by Tina Lauderdale Gregg:

John D. Butler died 9/22/1907 age about 28. Born 11/30/1857 in Alabama. Married 7/10/188_ to the former Laura McMinn, daughter of Felix and Elizabeth McMinn. They had 5 sons and 2 daughters. Two sons are in business in Ft. Worth and one living in Hill County. His oldest daughter, Miss Mittie, and the 3 younger children live at home. Also suvived by serveral sisters and brothers. Was a prominent farmer at Noonday. Died after a brief illness. After living in Arkansas, father, the late J. W. Butler of Noonday, moved to Louisiana and then to Shelby County, TX. From there the family came to Smith County, settling first at Whitehouse before moving to Noonday. Tyler Daily Courier, 9/24/1907 and Oct 3, 1907.

1. Thad was listed as coming to Ellis County, Texas in 1856...from the 1907 Roster of Charter Members of the "Ellis Co Pioneers Association".

Roll dated: Camp. Hebert-near Hempstead, October 28, 1861. Muster to date Oct. 28, 1861. Joined for duty and enrolled - Oct 28 1861. Where: Waxahachie, Ellis County, TX., Camp Hebert. By whom: Capt. Stokes. Period: 12-Months. No. of miles to rendezvous 260. Valuation of horse - $150.00, equipment $15.00.

Next: Confederate/Mc/12th Cav/Texas. Thaddeus McMinn/Private. Captain Stokes Company/ Parsons Regiment. Appears on Register of General Hospital, Houston, Texas: disease: Typhoid Fever. Admitted: Feb 12, 1862. Returned to duty: March 1, 1862.

May of next year: Confederate/Mc/12 Cav/Texas. Thad McMinn, private, Co "H" 12 Regiment Texas Calvary. For Sept 1 to Dec. 31, 1863 Dated Dec. 1864. Enlisted when: May 25, 1862. Where: Little Rock. By Whom: Captain J. E. Hawkins. Period 2 years. Last paid by whom: Captain Terrel (or Jerrel) To what time: Aug 31, 1864. Present or Absent: present.

7. Jimmy Baker reports that Thaddeus and his family lived in Ellis County, Texas until 1885 and then moved near Cleburne, Johnson, Texas.

8. The family moved near Crowell, Ford County, Texas, in 1889, and then on to Greer County in 1890 which was a part of Texas at that time...settling in the neighborhood of Jester, Greer, Oklahoma

9. Thaddeus died at home, 3 Mar 1920 at Jester, Oklahoma...aged 76 years, 5 months, 3 days..


Martha "Mollie" Jane MASSIE

1. Mollie was a charter member of the M. E. church which was organized in the Deer Creek Community. She lived a constant Christian having joined the church in early life.

2. She was the mother of nine (9) children, of which two preceded her in death.

3. She died at the home of her son L. J. McMinn at Brownsville, Texas, Wednesday, August 24, 1926. Funeral services were held at Riverside Cemetery, Firday August 27 at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. Perry.
