1. OBITUARY Lula M. Barnwell, 89
HENDERSONVILLE --- Lula M. Barnwell, 89, of Howard Gap Road, Route 14, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1989, in Pardee Hospital following a period of declining health.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was daughter of the late James Newton and Emma Love McMinn and the wife of Jay L. Barnwell, who died in 1974. She was employed at Anderson's Rest Home as a nurse's aid and was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a nephew, William Vernon Watkins; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held a 2 p.m. Thursday in Locust Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Landreth and Odell Barnswell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
1. When Grandaddy Watkins was in his early nineties, Gerald learned that he could pick a banjo, and he immediately went to work assembling a banjo for Granddaddy to play. Granddaddy picked his banjo every day as long as he lived.
