James Thomas CORBETT "Jr"

1. Jimmy died 20 May 2000 in a tragic car accident on his way to pick up his wife from work....A 19-year old Etowah man, Luke Edward Vaughn was driving a 1997 Ford Mustang North on the Zeb Corn Road when he crested a hill and lost control and crossed the center yellow line striking the 1995 Chevrolet Geo Tracker driven by Jimmy. Troopers estimated the Mustang was traveling at 65 mph at impact. [James Edward Vaughn died the following Wednesday 24 May 2000. He was the son of James Edward Vaughn and Ellen Dawn McMahan Vaughan of Etowah]

2. OBITUARY: James T. Corbett Jr., 51

James T. Corbett Jr., 51, of Henderson County died Saturday, May 20, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1949, in Roswell, N.M., to James T. Corbett Sr. and Stella McMinn Corbett of Henderson County.
He lived his teen years and adult life in Henderson County. He was a 1967 graduate of the former Edneyville High School and a 1977 graduate of Western Carolina University.
He served his country as an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart for the loss of a finger, Bronze Star Medal with V Device, Army Commendation Medal with V Device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, Combat Infantry Badge, sharpshooter (M-14 rifle) and marksman (.45-caliber pistol). He was honorably discharged Sept. 17, 1970.
He worked as a postal carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. He served our Lord as a member of the Deacon's Board on several churches in Henderson County and a was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of almost 27 years, Dallie S. Corbett; two sons, Spc. (E-4) Christopher T. Corbett, currently stationed at Fort Lee, Virgina and Stephen J. Corbett, currently at Trinity Baptist Bible College in Asheville; two half-brothers, Christopher Wilson of Florida and Robert Wilson of Texas; five half-sisters, Joan Bearden and Nannett Wilson of Texas, Donna Ellsworth and Neva Weatherford of Florida and Shirley J. Jones of New Mexico; and other extended family members in Henderson County and out-of-state.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shepherd's Church Street Chapel. The Revs. John Godfrey and Terry Tweed will officate. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors, and at other times will be at the home on McMinn Road.
The family requests his friends to show testimonial by sending flowers or making memorial as God leads their hearts.
