Ethel Pauline MAXWELL

1. Memories by Pauline Clingenpeel....Precious memories of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

I have attended Locust Grove Church since I was a little girl. Remembering of going to the little one room school house when I was five years old. It being the home of Polly McMinn now. Having two dedicated Aunts, being Sarah & Bessie Maxwell, they had me walk up a rough and winded path up the side of the mountain coming into the part of Locust Grove road close to George Taylor's drive, back in the times of long ago. I remember the blackberries along the path and ole timey peaches and ; plums to eat as we were almost to Bethel's. Anut Sarah was a Sunday School teacher and I have one of the small cards she gave me in her class. All the years I have been going I can remember the changing of things that have taken. Precious memories of Paul accepting the Lord and being baptized. Also Rev. Quay Corn marrying us in his home on Howard Gap Road. He was a deacon of the church working faithful and never faltering as long as he lived. I have served in the church as WMU member, assistant teacher of Intermediate and Primary class, flower buyer, cfhurch clerk, member of choir. I love my church on the mountain. I've enjoyed many revivals, prayer groups, feeling God's presence.
Our 3 children were raised at Locust Grove Church from babies - our grandchildren served there until married and called to the church of their choice.
I was saved at Fruitand Baptist Church, baptized and left my letter there until 1949. Then moving it to Locust Grove. My prayers are with the church that it might grow in number and closer fellowship with one another. Prov. 3:6 In all thy ways ackknowledge Him, and He shall direct they path.

Leaving his house on McMinn Road, going up Stepp Road through Salisberry Road, down to Massey Road and turning around. Coming back u N. Clear Creek Road and then up the mountain. Lots of times he would pick up 20 or 25 people. [When he couldn't be available Roy Taylor would drive it]
