3. He enlisted on 1 Oct 1863 and served as a private in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was assigned to Company "B" NC 2nd Regiment North Carolina Mounted Infantry until January 1864 at which time he was transfered to Company "F". He was discharged 16 Aug 1865 at Knoxville, Tennessee.
4. On his pension application (552134) he was listed as being 5' 9" tall, dark eyes, hair and complexion at time of enlistment....he received a pension.
