Jesse Andrew MC MINN

1. Pam Russell states that this Jesse apparently died sometime after 1878. The earliest dated paper for Jesse was 24 Apr 1855 where he stated he was aged sixty of Fannin County Georgia. He was applying for land under the Bounty Land Act of 1855 for those that served in the War of 1812. He also stated that he had received a land warrant for 80 acres in 1850 under the act of that year (1850), and it had been legally sold. The next papers in his file were dated 23 May 1871 where he was applying for pension under the Pension Act of 14 Feb 1871 for those served in the War of 1812. He stated he volunteered in Franklin County, Tenn, served 6 months, and was discharged at Winchester, Tennessee. It can be assumed that he received the pension as the next dated paper was on 31 Oct 1877 informing him as of 29 Oct 1877 that he was dropped from the pension roll for "evidence of disloyalty during the late rebellion". Rebellion was their term for the Civil War. Some of the appointed officials of Georgia had deided he was disloyal to the Union during the war that was over 12 years after the fact since the war had ended in 1865. Some of the southern states couldn't have elections, they were appointed. Jesse McMinn had two sons killed in the Civil War fighting for the South and maybe a third as he has not been found after the War as far as it is known. Another son, John served with the North from Tennessee, but he made it through the War. Jesse himslf served in the war of 1812 that finally ended the British issue for good, ... and they called him "disloyal". ???

2. The last paper in his file was dated 24 Oct 1878, seemingly there was another pension act of March 1878 and he was refiling under that Act. No other papers to tell the outcome of that filing. He most likely died soon afterwards as he was about 83 by that time and has not been found in the 1880 census.

3. Jesse was still a single man about 19 years of age when he enlisted at Winchester, Franklin, Tennessee on 13 Nov 1814 and was discharged 13 May 1815 from War of 1812. He was in Captain Barbe Collins Company under Major General William Carroll. They left Tennessee on 21 Nov 1814 by boat, and traveled the distance of 1300 miles to New Orleans in about 30 days. An unknown William McMinn joined the same day. According to William McMinn's muster roll, his time served was 1 month and 10 days, his pay was $8 per month, they owed him $10.58. It states he died 23 Dec 1814. His widow Bell McMinn filed a paper 21 Nov 1816 for his pay. It would seem Jesse and William were kin, but how?

Affa KUYKENDALL

1. Janelle Foster says birth was in 1776, which would make her some twenty years older than Jesse.
