1. Noma Lee McMinn Taylor's records lists a "Margaret Baily", however, this writer seems to think that would have been the Margaret McMinn born 22 Aug 1756 that was born to Robert Sr. & Sarah Harlan, who died in infancy.

No other McMinns are buried there, nor his wife, for they were separated, after losing a case for divorce which he attempted by Petition to the Tennessee Legislature.
6. On a leaf of Joseph’s Bible the following was found, “Joseph McMinn Bible; bought of David Wendlo, January 1819; price , $16.00.”
7. After the governor’s death, through a flaw in the wording of his Will which he intended to leave his property to his adopted daughter, Hetty, she was cut off and the property was all put up and sold at public auction and the proceeds turned over to the state of Tennessee. The old Bible was bought by Hetty McMinn Morrison and passe from her to her daughter, Martha Ann Morrison Knox, and thus to its present owner, Mary Knox Harle. [Mr. Frank Harle of Cleveland]

The record of Joseph McMinn’s marriages, his wifes’ deaths and records concerning his daughter, Jane and his adopted daughter Hetty, are all in the same hand writing, evidently that of Mr. McMinn himself. The records concerning the birth and death of the children of Hetty McMinn Morrison all written by another person, while the deaths of Joseph McMinn and Robert Morrison are recorded in two entirely different scripts. Mrs. Harle identifies the writing in which Governor McMinn’s death is recorded as that of her father, Thomas J. Knox.

Circuit court record, Hawkins Co., Tenn 1833
3 Sep 1833, Robert McMinn appears and states that he is a resident of Hawkins Co., IN, will be 70 yers old on Jan 12 next. Says he was born in Chester Co., PA 12 Jan 1764 and that his father kept a record of the ages of his children in a Bible, now in the possession of Robert's sister in VA. His father moved from Chester Co., PA to Frederick Co., MD when applicant ws a few years old, and that he, applicant, lived there when he entered service of the U. S. , that he was drafted in 1779, when he was not quite 16 years old. He was stationed in Fredericktown by Col. Price where for 6 months he was a fatugear, makeing barrels to hold the Continental beef; at the end of the six monts, he returned home.
In September of 1781 he was again drafted into service under Capt.Cobble for the purpose of marching against Lord Cornwallis who was then at Little York. While forming up as a regiment under Major Millen, they received word of the capture of Cornwallis. The men captured were trought to Fredricktown as prisoners and were guarded by Major Millen's men, including applicant and marched to Little York, Pa. Applicant remained in this place and was there discharged by Capt. Cobble and applicat then returned home. Applicant no longer has his discharge papers.
Witness to his statemetn were John Coritz and William Smith.

He instructs his executor, John Lynn, to sell the remainder of his property, houses and lots, in Kingsport, and tells him how to disburse the money raised from the sale.

1. Descendant, Mrs. C. Gerald Hasty (Emogene), said in 1978 that only James was the son of Elizabeth Ridley Smithy; the others were by the first wife (name unknown) Robert & Elizabeth separated about 1819.
2. The Hawkins County Genealogical Society has Elizabeth Ridley McMinn dying in 1854, but, the National Banner and Nashv ille Whig newspapers published obits stating that "Mrs. Rubert McMinn died in this town August 26, 1826.
