John "James" CLINGENPEEL

1. Donald Clyngenpeel listed John's county of birth as Preble.

2. During the Civil War he enlisted in Company "D" , 89th Inf. Reg. on 9 Aug 1862 in Kokomo, Indiana. He was discharged by the Surgeon General on 8 Sep 1862 as diabled.

3. John was described as six feet tall, gray eyes, & 33 years old at the time.

William CLINGENPEEL "Sr"

1. William & Millie were married by Jacob W. Thomas.

2. William along with his brother, Francis, enlisted on 25 Apr 1861, in Kokomo, Indiana into the 13th Indiana Infantry, Co. "E", United States Army. He received a disability discharge in Jun 1862.

3. Apparently William recovered because he reenlisted on 13 Aug 1862 into the 89th Indiana Infantry, Co. "F". He was discharged on 19 Jul 1865 in Mobile, Alabama.

4. William's first given name may have been "George", or he may have had a brother named George, according to Allison Cozzi.

5. William & Emily moved to Missouri in 1889.


Kilkenny CLINGENPEEL

1. Kilkenny & Sarah were married by the Rev. Francis McFarland.

2. They moved from Virginia to Preble County, Ohio before 1830.


Sarah "Sally" FULWIDER

1. The exact death of Sarah is uncertain. On August 15, 1859, her five children, who were residents of Preble County, were named as heirs at law of Sarah: "Witnesseth that whereas the said Sarah Clingenpeel as a daughter and heir at Law of George Fulwider late of Augusta County, Virginia, deceased, was entlitled to an interest in the land left by the said Father..." [August Co., Va. Deed Book 79, pp.90-91]


Francis "Frank" Marion CLINGENPEEL

1. Sandra Williams noted that 17 Nov 1857 was the date of the marriage application for Francis and Amanda.

2. He enlisted on 25 Apr 1861 in Kokomo, Indiana into Company "E" 13th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, United States Army. He was discharged on 1 Jul 1864 in Indianapolis, Indiana, but, re-enlisted in Jun 1865 as a private in Company "E" 40th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged on 16 Nov 1865 at Port LaVaca, Texas, having served 4 years, six months. The second tour in the military was a hired replacement for draftee John Mann of Union, Indiana. It was a common Practice during the Civil War to hire another to take ones place in the military.

3. Sandra Williams reported Francis's death to be on 26 Sep 1903.

4. Francis & Sarah were married by W. C. Shaw, JP.
